Staying Healthy While You Travel

| April 24, 2012 | Comments (0)

Millions of travelers choose to fly to their destinations each and every day. While most will have no issues relating to their health, some will. Airplanes, like other confined spaces which seat hundreds of passengers each and every day are filled with germs and if you are not careful, you may be the lucky recipient of these germs. Illness being one of the top complaints relating to travel by frequent travelers, take a look at a few things you can do to avoid getting sick on your next trip to the airport.

Use Good Manners and Encourage Them As Well – Though you can avoid sneezes and coughs on the street, getting away from an not so polite traveler while on a plane could be a bit more difficult. Be polite and cover your own mouth when you sneeze or cough and encourage others to do so as well.

Watch What You Touch – Your hands will certainly be touching things that others have touched, exposing you to germs. Make sure when you travel to avoid touching your mouth and face in general. In addition, try to avoid contact with others however, if you do, make sure to wash your hands.

RELAX – Not only is this conducive to your whole travel experience, it is also conducive to your well being. Remember to relax and take it all in stride. Try to avoid getting worked up over the small things and just relax.

Get Plenty of Rest Before You Travel – Not getting enough sleep will actually lower your immune system, making you more prone to illnesses found in crowded places including airplanes. Before you travel, get plenty of rest.

Get A Drink – Though it may be nice to have a glass of wine, alcohol will actually further dehydrate you and leave you prone to illness when traveling. Staying hydrated is one way that you can promote your health when you travel. Avoid caffeine and alcohol in favor of water and stay hydrated for your health.

What do you do to avoid getting sick when you travel? Do you leave it up to chance or do you exercise caution to avoid illness when you travel? Share your opinions!

Kakadu National Park

Though we often discuss America’s amazing national parks, you may be surprised to find out that this great idea is not just ours, in fact hundreds of other national parks can be found around the globe and offer some of the wildest and most exotic destinations in the world today. One such destination is located in the country of Australia. Called Kakadu, this is Australia’s largest national park today.

Massive in size, the park encompasses a huge variety of natural areas, diverse habitats and human history unlike anything you have seen before. Managed by the park system in conjunction with the more historic owners of the land, the native Aboriginal tribes, Kakadu is an experience unmatched even within Australia itself.

Also listed as a World Heritage site, this is a must see destination for the history and nature lover. A completely wild place, Kakadu is breathtaking and diverse. Offering year round opportunities to visit throughout most of the park, there are certain areas which have to be closed during times of flooding.

If you are a visitor to Kakadu, there are simply some things you should not miss. The Bowali visitor center is the ideal place to begin offering tips and advice on travel in this harsh land. In addition, stopping by to explore the native art at the Marrawuddi Gallery and the Warradjan Aboriginal Culture Center also offer the opportunity to get to know more about the original inhabitants of this land.

Whether just exploring for the day or the week, itineraries can cater to your interests. Exploring the ancient rock art, seeing the wetlands within an otherwise dry land, taking a tour of the river, flying high above the land on a private plane or learning more about the plants and animals within the region all offer a unique and spectacular look at Kakadu and its beauty.

Whether exploring within the U.S. or abroad, take the time to see all that nature has to offer you and make more of your vacations

For the millions of excited young adults who are out enjoying the sunshine and surf, there are just some areas which are more popular than others for this type of Spring Break experience. What if you are a family and want to enjoy a quieter and more family oriented Spring Break? Rather than planning your Spring Break and finding out later that you choose poorly, we invite you to take a closer look at some of the still popular Spring Break destinations without the party crowd.

Enjoy a perfect family friendly Spring Break.

Florida – The Sunshine State is one state which sees an influx of the more rambunctious travelers in Spring however, these travelers are generally restricted to the most popular destinations such as Miami, Panama City and the Keys.

Just a few miles down the beach, you will run into a much quite, calmer and no less beautiful destination, the beach called Navarre. Just miles from the excitement of Panama Beach, Navarre still offers the same amazing warm Gulf waters, white sandy beaches and fun activities, just in a much more family oriented way. Fun off the beach activities are also easy to come by in the area as well making it a popular family Spring Break destination year after year.

Amelia Island, also located nearby to some of the more famous Spring Break hot spots, Amelia Island may as well be hundreds of miles away given its pristine beauty and opportunities for enjoying nature and the solitude of the area even in spring. A laid back small town, ample opportunities exist to explore and enjoy the Florida fun and still relax and avoid the crowds at this great family friendly destination.

California – The great state of California is anther well know destination for Spring Breakers each year in search of the perfect beach, however, with thousands of miles of coastline to choose from, there is always somewhere you can go to escape the crowds, even in spring and Redondo Beach is this place.

Just miles from the city of Los Angeles, Redondo Beach is a small town just down the beach and offers stunning views, beautiful beaches and plenty of amazing wildlife and adventures. Though the water in this area is generally not warm enough to swim this time of year, you will not be missing out as the wildlife and natural areas along this coast are unmatched for their beauty and diversity. Cost effective and fun, consider Redondo Beach when looking for your perfect family friendly Spring Break.

Spring Break does not have to be all about the beach, there are many other top family fun destinations that skip the sand and go straight for the fun and beauty of other types of experience. Just a couple of these popular destinations include:

Washington DC – Known for festivals and events in spring
Grand Canyon – Known for high temps in summer, spring offers cooler temps and fewer people than summer.

Whether you want to enjoy the surf and sun on a beach or just get out and explore nature or culture at other top destinations, don’t let spring pass you by. Take advantage of the beauty of spring and enjoy a family friend spring retreat.
